Written and Directed by David Duchovny, starring David Duchovny, Anton Yelchin, Tea Leoni, and Robin Williams. By working through problems stemming from his past, Tom Warshaw, an American artist living in Paris, begins to discover who he really is, and returns to his home to reconcile with his family and friends.

Even though its a little older movie, I planned on saving this one for a later time, but in lieu of the death of Robin Williams, now seems the most appropriate time.

With the passing of Robin Williams, this movie struck a huge chord very close to my heart. I am a huge fan of David Duchovny and Robin Williams. This is one of Robin Williams best roles as a mentally challenged janitor and the best friend of young Tom Warshaw (Anton Yelchin). Robin Williams reaches a depth and emotionality in the role only seen in pictures like Goodwill Hunting, scenes of Mrs. Doubtfire, and in Patch Adams (and absolutely arguable in The Fisher King, but I want to keep the list concise). Parts of this movie were a real tear-jerker. As it is told, it is most like a flashback version of a coming of age story for a young man.

Anton Yelchin, playing the lead in this film, is a truly gifted actor at his young age. Today he is probably best recognized by his role in the new Star Trek films as Ensign Chekov or in his role as the kidnapped boy, Zack, in Alpha Dog with Justin Timberlake.

This is one of my favorite independent films by far, although some would argue that it isn't since it was one of Lionsgate's. For Robin Williams and Anton Yelchin I give this movie a 9.8/10.

There are some parts that make it not quite family friendly, but very close. However, the .2 that keeps it from a perfect 10 is simply because I don't hand out perfect scores lightly. I'm saving that perfect 10 for a truly life-changing film.
