Your Weekly S.I.P. :

"You get your sip, from my Sip."

Welcome to Writer's Block. This week we will be looking into a Historical Action Drama that revives another classic as a darker piece than has been done before.

Synopsis:

1230 AD, Nottinghamshire, England. John of Pembroke struggles against the Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and the King for freedom from their greedy and tyrannical reign. A tall, slender, poor criminal named Robert Hode escapes the law of his home in Yorkshire to the dark forest of Nottingham where he meets Little John and his Merry Men. Upon joining them, Robert, now Robin, rivals with the hulking Little John for control of the band of ruffians. Upon making a name for himself and securing his role among the Merry Men, John of Pembroke approaches with an offer that pushes both the Sherriff of Nottingham and Robin Hode to their very limits.

Inspirations:

I've always loved the stor of Robin Hood, and my curiousity about it brough me to doing some research on the subject. With what Robin Hood's motto was, I always thought that in order to accomplish what the stories and movies tell, he would have to be a lot more like V from V for Vendetta. Which brought me to this idea.

I’ve always loved Robin Hood but they always have given the take that Robin Hood is just a good man, where as this idea is a much darker take on Robin Hood and much further ground into its ORIGINS rather than from fantasy invented by later authors. For instance, Maid Marian was not introduced into the legend until the 1600s when women playing a stronger role in society finally began to take place. And her first appearance in any of the tales was of her being a very fat chambermaid who actually had a thing with Friar Tuck (also not an original character). The story I have built is very much ground in the historical limitations of the time as well as the caste system in England and although it is a darker take than ever seen before, is much closer to the reality of it (aside of the bit of fiction I have created for it).

Progress:

This script too, is in the outlinign stages like any other I'm not currently scribbling away at. Everytime I pick up this stack of notes, it strikes me that this idea could wait until my career picks up more. When I can afford the rights to it, I'll be ready to write it. But the scratch I have on the idea right now is awesome. I believe I will be re-inventing the wheel on Robin Hood with this one. And in doing so, please both Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire since I sort of made him from both.
